Dogs are beloved companions in many cultures, and figures of dogs were some of the most common porcelain figures exported from China. As in Europe, spaniels and other hunting dogs were seen by the Chinese as symbols of status and refinement as well as loyalty. The small spaniels were the first pieces bought by Mrs. Rogan for her collection.
